For the month of June, CIC’s admin assistant, Bridget travelled to Bangalore, India to take part in a volunteering internship program with 40K Globe. 40K Globe carries out programs in rural India where Australian university students work on hands-on programs, creating entrepreneurial solutions to issues such as access to education, waste and employment for women. UTS has partnered with 40K Globe to provide grants to UTS students wishing to participate in the 40K Globe program.

As part of her program, Bridget and her group developed a library for educational toys and books in a rural town north of Bangalore. This involved setting up a relationship with a local shopkeeper for the library to run out of, who now receives additional income through commission.

“I had an amazing time over in India and learnt a lot from this experience. I was challenged and inspired every day, and I will definitely remember this trip for the rest of my life. I am grateful for the international opportunities that UTS students have access to.” Bridget Payne
