Flipping the textbook: Student-created textbook for students

Teaching & Learning Grant, 2016: PI: Janet Chelliah (Scholarly Information Manager: UTS Library), with: Theresa Anderson (Senior lecturer & MDSI course coordinator: Connected Intelligence Centre); Peter Kandlbinder (Senior Lecturer: IML); Julie-Anne Marshall (Manager: eResearch, UTSeScholarship, UTS Library); and Simon Knight (Research Fellow: Connected Intelligence Centre).

The aim of this proejct is to investigate the processes and procedures required to embed open education resources (OER) as a key component for student learning in a course. It builds on results from a recent OLT-funded Students, Universities and Open Education project which identified adapting resources to fit the specifics of the subject’s content as an important condition in staff and student’s adoption of OERs.  The project will involve students in the co-creation of OER, developing their academic and digital literacies as they contribute to knowledge construction in their subject. The OER will be developed under the oversight of an editorial team that includes staff experienced in open publishing.
