How can we understand the intersection of GenAI, Learning Analytics, and Learning Design?
As part of the University of Technology Sydney Graduate Certificate in Learning Design and the Crunch microcredential, we invite guest speakers to share their knowledge and experiences with our students (we call these our ‘Expression Sessions’).
CIC Lecturer Lisa Lim teaches Crunch, and hosted this Expression Session with Dr Siamak Mirzaei exploring the design and implementation of Chatmate, a generative AI and analytics platform developed to enhance feedback and student engagement in higher education. Drawing on real-world use cases at the University of South Australia, the presentation highlights how Chatmate integrates with learning design to support personalised, data-informed feedback loops. The talk will cover the pedagogical rationale, technical considerations, and challenges of embedding GenAI tools within online learning environments, as well as future directions for responsible and scalable use of AI in learning design.
Bio: Dr Siamak Mirzaei is an educator and researcher at the University of South Australia Online (UO) and a member of Centre for Change and Complexity in Learning (C3L). His work focuses on educational technology, learning analytics, and the ethical use of AI in assessment and feedback.
