Governments are preparing for the impact of data, analytics and AI. Learn how CIC is contributing to current Australian and UK strategy consultations around the implications for societal learning.
The British All Party Parliamentary Group on AI is a multi-year initiative to help anticipate the widespread impacts that AI could have on society. They convene Evidence Sessions on different themes, in which Lords and MPs have the opportunity to hear from, and question, diverse experts. CIC Director Simon Buckingham Shum presented evidence on the critical question of how we can ensure Fair & Robust AI Assessment in Education. Turning to Australia, the Australian Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources has just completed a national consultation on a draft AI Action Plan for Australia.
As part of December’s EmpoweringLearners.AI conference, Simon convened an expert panel to discuss the implications of the plan for how we raise the literacy and skill levels of the workforce, in response to questions posed by the Action Plan:
- What is the best way to ensure Australians have the skills and capabilities they will need for an AI enabled future?
- What is the best way to ensure Australian businesses have access to the AI workforce they need for an AI enable future?
- Is there more the government can do to support responsible and human centred development and use of AI in Australia?
