The UTS Connected Intelligence Centre (CIC) is an innovation centre whose mission is to build the university’s capacity to gain insights from analytics in learning, teaching, research and business operations. CIC is located in the heart of Sydney at the UTS City campus.

Detailed Description

CIC is developing Learning Analytics for higher order learning, and UTS offers many testbeds for investigating the potential of Academic Writing Analytics (AWA), providing datasets and a community of practitioners and researchers who will work with CIC.

The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will develop the AWA R&D program and software, bringing a distinctive combination of skills, at the intersection of programming, text analytics, educational theory and learning design.

This position provides the springboard for a highly motivated researcher to establish an international profile in an area of critical importance to both educators and employers: the ability to think critically, and make that thinking visible in one’s writing as coherent analysis and argumentation.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Evaluating existing tools and designing new tools offering personalised, formative feedback on writing in diverse contexts, e.g. new undergraduates struggling to master academic English; undergraduate essays; reflective blogs/e-portfolios; draft papers intended for peer review.
  • Designing, implementing, evaluating and refining Academic Writing Analytics in different contexts in collaboration with the Director and colleagues
  • Contributing to, and leading the writing of relevant grant proposals for internal and external funding
  • Preparation and delivery of internal and external training courses.

Main skills and experience required:

The successful candidate will bring excellent interpersonal skills to work with non-technical academics, as well as technical skills to design language technology services, and interact with colleagues who bring cloud, web application development and user interface design skills.

You will also bring in-depth knowledge of research into the teaching and assessment of academic writing, and technical expertise in the use of language technologies.

Remuneration & Benefits

Base Salary Range: $100,923 to $115,486 pa (Level B)

This role attracts 17% superannuation in addition to the base salary. Employee benefits include flexible work practices, child care centres, generous parental leave and salary packaging opportunities.

This position is full time and appointment will be made on a fixed term basis for 4 years.
