CIC is delighted to announce that astrophysicist Michael Pracy has joined the team in a Data Scientist role. We’ll let Mike introduce himself!

My new role at CIC is as a Data Scientist. It is a service position, tasked with providing analytic support, data analysis and modelling to other UTS business units. I will also provide advice or collaborate with research students and academic staff at CIC involved with data analytics and machine learning applications.

My background is in physics and I was awarded my PhD from the University of New South Wales in astrophysics. Following this I have worked as a research fellow at Mount Stromlo Observatory, Swinburne University of Technology and most recently the University of Sydney. As an astrophysicist, my research focused on the role supermassive black-holes play in shaping the galaxies we see around us in the Universe today. My primary interest though is in data analytics and
machine learning techniques and my desire is to contribute to society by applying such techniques to
real world challenges.

Welcome to CIC Mike!
